Writing Your Life Story

During your journey through life you will have experienced many thoughts and emotions brought on by external situations and influence - both beyond and within your control. It is through these experiences that you developed your personal life story, literally creating your own belief system.

In your earlier years you will have been influenced by your parents and authority figures telling you what you can and can’t do and what you can and can’t achieve. As you get older and circumstance affects you personally you’ll then develop your own views, both subconsciously and consciously, which also establishes your personal parameters.

On top of this you will have been subjected to thousands upon thousands of events through work, TV, newspapers, the internet etc. Thousands of ideas, thousands of views, thousands of confusing debates along with every doom and gloom story experienced by people you’ve never heard of. In short you have been totally influenced by the world around you.

At this point you may be thinking “well how have I created me, it’s all totally out of my control”.

The events or situations may be out of your control, but your interpretation or perception of the event and how you allow it to affect you isn’t. For example:

• Do you see the negative in situations developing an “it can’t be done” attitude or do you find opportunity and inspiration?

• Do you blame others for your mistakes or learn from them?

• Are you a victim who believes that because life hasn’t dealt you a decent hand you can’t possibly be content or successful? Or does the same set of circumstance drive you to succeed?

• Do you let an argument get out of control building story upon story until you’ve created a new fictitious reality, or do you try to understand the other side and find a harmonious resolution?

• Do you operate from a basis of fear and anxiety or love and compassion?

• Do you hear bad news and let it fuel your belief of “see there is no hope” or do you filter out what you can’t do anything about.

• Are you grateful for what you have or are always wanting for more?

You see the same situations can create two completely different people. One happy content and successful, one miserable and self doubting.

So how do these situations and perceptions actually create your belief system?

Everything you do, feel, experience, read, discuss, think and “tell yourself”, whether it’s true or not, is held in your subconscious. The subconscious is literally your store house - it holds all the information about who you are and who you believe your are. Long forgotten and repressed memories reside here along with the repetitive thoughts that mould your belief system.

If you have spent your lifetime telling yourself that nothing goes your way, you’re not lucky, you aren’t good enough - then these negative affirmations overtime become lodged in your subconscious mind, they become your reality. When a situation then arises, for example you’ve been asked to head a project at work, your mind immediately checks with the subconscious to see if that’s what we do. Of course in this scenario the mind will be told that if we went anywhere near that project you would be a complete failure and therefore it would be highly detrimental to your job security. And so we turn the position down - not based on fact, immediate experience, the job potential or analysis, but based on subconscious patterning. You would miss out on a fabulous opportunity for development and success.

This is just one example. The same situation can be applied to:

• finding love- they’re too good for me

• creating happiness - I’ll only be happy if I own this

• becoming healthy – I can’t heal myself

In fact your personal belief system affects every aspect of your life.

So you see

Everything that you are has in some way been created by you.

This is great news

It means that we can create a new you
