Tibetan Buddhist Mantra
If you’ve tried intoning Om you’ll know that chanting a mantra either in your mind or out loud is a really enjoyable and effective way to meditate. Most of the world’s spiritual paths that use meditation as a metaphysical tool use this technique and as such you have a wealth of mantras to chose from.To start we are going to use probably the most famous mantra of all. It’s used by Tibetan monks and lay people alike, and if you travel to the Himalayas you’ll here it being chanted everywhere you go.
The mantra is written in Sanskrit, as are all Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist mantras. Sanskrit is one of the world’s most ancient languages and is derived from the same roots as Latin and Greek.
The mantra we will use today is
OM Mani Padme Hung
1. Fist of all sit comfortably in a straight back chair or sit cross legged or in the lotus position on the floor keeping your back straight.2. Take three deep breaths

3. Focus on the natural rhythm of your breath
4. Start chanting OM Mani Padme Hung at the front of your mind.
5. Gradually move the chant to the back of your mind until it becomes almost a whisper of a thought.
6. Continue the whole meditation for about 20 minutes.
7. Sit in silence for two minutes.
8. Have a drink of cool fresh mineral water.
